FAYETTEVILLE—Douglas Byrd High School has named its baseball field in memory of former coach Brad Barbour, according to a report in the Fayetteville Observer.
The field was dedicated prior to a recent baseball game between between Byrd and Gray’s Creek.
Barbour served as head baseball coach Douglas Byrd from 2007-13 after years spent leading the junior varsity squad. He died in December of 2013 after a lengthy illness.
As part of the tribute, a special four-man umpiring crew was assigned for the game, and all four wore number 18 on the sleeve of their shirt, the number Barbour wore while he was coaching.
A number of school officials, elected officials and other dignitaries were on hand for the event.
