FAYETTEVILLE ALUMNI RALLY FOR BENEFIT GAME
FAYETTEVILLE — The community service spirit which high school athletes demonstrate apparently doesn’t end when they graduate.
This weekend in Fayetteville, a special soccer benefit game will be played by former Cumberland County high school athletes who are coming from all over the country to participate.
Earl Vaughan of the Fayetteville Observer reports that Buck Rowlee, a former standout soccer player at Westover, and former Terry Sanford athlete John-Michael Loke have organized a series of fundraising efforts for the weekend, including the game, which will be played Saturday afternoon at two o’clock at Terry Sanford High School between Westover alumni and a team of alumni from other Cumberland County high schools.
All proceeds from the event will go to The Molly Fund, which was established by Rowlee with the help of friends in 2009 following the death of his 5-year-old daughter Molly. Molly was diagnosed with lymphoma in early 2009 and died five months later, but the foundation named for her continues to perpetuate her memory by providing support to families with ailing children.
