Former NCHSAA Heart Of Champion Winner Dies

BOONVILLE—Former Starmount High School soccer player and wrestler Austin Macemore died on Tuesday following a second battle with cancer. He was 19 years of age.

Macemore graduated from Starmount in 2012, and he earned a Heart of a Champion Award from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. He had also been involved with the Student Athlete Summer Institute (SASI).

Macemore was a four-year standout in two sports for Starmount. His passing came just days after a Race More For Macemore event hosted by Yadkinville United Methodist Church. The event helped raise money for Austin and his family and drew more than 1,200 runners and walkers and over 1,000 spectators, according to The Yadkin Ripple.
