OLYMPIA FIELDS, IL–A former North Lincoln High School golfer performed well this week at the United States Amateur Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club.
Former North Lincoln standout Hunter Capps shot a two-over par 72 on Tuesday for a two-over 142 total during the stroke play portion of the tournament. That qualified Capps into the match play portion of the event.
The top 64 scores from stroke play advanced to match play out of the 312 players in the championship field.
Capps lost on Wednesday in the first round of match play, falling 4 and 3 to Austin James of Canada.
Capps finished third in the individual standings in the 2010 North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A men’s golf championship and helped lead North Lincoln to the team title.
