Garner Names Inductees To School Hall of Fame

         GARNER—Garner Magnet High School will induct a new class into its Garner Magnet High School Hall of Fame in the spring, according to a report in the Raleigh News and Observer.

         Among the members of the induction class are former baseball coach Henry Liles and former Garner athletes Steve Hudson and Carol Merritt.

         Liles coached baseball for 15 years at Garner and led his teams to 10 conference championships.  Hudson was a two-sport high school athletes, in basketball and softball, and went on to a collegiate career at Mount Olive College, where he was the school’s male athlete of the year in 1991 and set several school baseball marks. Merritt won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championship in indoor track in the 300 meters and outdoors in the 400. She went on to set a number of school records during her career at Wake Forest University.

         The school will also recognize its women’s basketball teams from the 1950s.
