Gilbert Douglas Ferrell, 92, of Wilson, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Gilbert was best known for his long and impactful career in education and athletics. He served with distinction as a teacher, coach, and athletic director in Wilson County, where he influenced generations of students with his leadership and dedication. A graduate of East Carolina University and a veteran of the U.S. Army, Gilbert was deeply committed to his community and faith. He is remembered for his warm spirit, unwavering integrity, and the countless lives he touched throughout his life.

In addition to many other Hall of Fame inductions, Ferrell was part of the 2009 NCHSAA Hall of Fame class.
