Green Hope Grad Has Great Pga Start

Green Hope High School graduate Ben Kohles had a great start to the 2013 PGA Tour recently in Hawaii, according to the Cary News.

Kohles, recorded rounds of 67-70-68-68 for a 7-under 273 at the Waiale Country Club in Hawaii behind a record-setting tournament score by fellow rookie Russell Hensley, who shot a remarkable 256, 24-under par. Kohles wound up in a tie for 41st in the Sony Open and earned $19,068.

Last year Kohles played on the Web.Com Tour, winning two events and earning more than $300,000 in 10 outings. The Green Hope product did not try out for the golf team as a freshman but was a key player as the Falcons won North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4-A state championships in two of the next three years.

Kohles went on to play at the University of Virginia, winning seven coillegiate tournaments.
