WINSTON-SALEM—Alfred Alvin Poe transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, February 14, 2025, Valentine’s Day, surrounded by his loving family. 

From the tennis courts of North Carolina Central to the sidelines of Carver High, “Coach Poe” shaped lives, built champions, and left a lasting legacy in education and athletics. His many accolades include Coach of the Year (1991, 1996, 1997), Winston Salem Sportsmen and North Carolina Central Hall of Fame, three-time basketball Conference Champion, State 3-A Sectional Champion, State Play-Off Regionals, Second place Frank Spencer Holiday Champion, all-CIAA tennis team at North Carolina Central, Western District Doubles Tennis Champion at William Penn, and many more.
