HOPEWELL HIGH SCHOOL
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH RETIRES
HUNTERSVILLE — Hopewell High School head football coach Chris Rust has announced his retirement.
Rust spent 19 years as a teacher and assistant coach at North Mecklenburg before coming to Hopewell and will finish the year at the school.
He has coached at Hopewell since the school opened nearly a decade ago and was named head coach prior to the 2005 campaign. His teams were 43-31 and made the playoffs every season, including an 11-1 team in 2007 when Hopewell won its first conference championship.
Athletic director Jamie Billings said that Hopewell would begin its search for a new head coach immediately.
