MOORESVILLE – A veteran athletic director has announced his retirement.

        Steve Rankin, currently athletic director at Lake Norman High School in Iredell County, has announced his retirement effective September 1.

        He will continue to work at the school until that date. Rankin has been employed by the Iredell-Statesville system for many years and has been in education almost 40 years.

        Although a relatively new school, Lake Norman has quickly established an outstanding athletic program. It opened in 2002 and has already won seven NCHSAA state team championships.
