Mitchell Names Pitman As New Head Football Coach

         BAKERSVILLE– The Mitchell County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Richard A. Spurling, along with Mitchell High School athletic director Jamie Bell, have announced Mitchell’s new football coach, according to a press release.

         Travise Pitman has been named to the position.

         Pitman is a 1995 graduate of Mitchell and graduated from Western Carolina University in the spring of 2000.  At Western, he was a two-year starter and letterman at tight end and as a senior was a preseason All-American selection. 

         During his 14-year tenure at Mitchell, he has served in a number of capacities in the athletic department, including assistant football coach, track coach, assistant varsity basketball coach, and head junior varsity basketball coach.

         Dr. Spurling noted, “I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Travise Pitman as head football coach for Mitchell High School.  I feel Travise has demonstrated during his career as a teacher and coach that he is quality within and will bring a great work ethic to the program.   He has always demonstrated a tremendous passion and energy for his profession as a teacher in the classroom and as a coach in several sports.”  

         Mitchell’s new coach said, “I’m looking forward to building a tradition with Mitchell High School and the community that everyone will be proud to be a part of. I’m very appreciative of the opportunity I have been given and will dedicate myself to teaching the athletes hard work, discipline, and teamwork.”
