TWO MORE CLASSIFICATIONS OF SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS SET FOR THIS WEEKEND
CHAPEL HILL⎯ North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships in two classifications of swimming are up for grabs this weekend.
In swimming, the 4-A schools will compete at the Willis Casey Aquatic Center on the N.C. State University campus in Raleigh, while the 3-A championships are set for the Koury Natatorium on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
Swimming will commence on Saturday with preliminaries starting at 9:15am and finals beginning at 5:00 pm at both locations. Diving competition will be held on Friday in both championships, with warm-ups beginning at 1:30 pm.
The diving for the 4-A schools will occur at Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh while the 3-A divers will compete at Koury.
Chapel Hill is the defending 4-A champion in both men’s and women’s swimming but had to break some long streaks to win last year. Raleigh Enloe entered last year’s event with nine consecutive state titles in men’s competition while Charlotte Providence had earned four women’s crowns in succession.
Providence has won nine of the 11 women’s state 4-A championships.
Charlotte Catholic is the three-time defending team champion at the 3-A classification in both men’s and women’s swimming.
Wendy’s is the presenting sponsor of the NCHSAA sports programs and the Raleigh Sports Consortium is the primary host sponsor for the championship in Raleigh. The Chapel Hill host city sponsors include the town of Chapel Hill, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, BB&T and UNC Health Care.
