NCHSAA Board of Directors Winter 2023 Meeting 

CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association concluded its Winter Board of Directors Meeting on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the NCHSAA Office in Chapel Hill.

The Board of Directors approved the membership applications of four new schools effective for the 2024-25 school year: American Leadership Academy, Jackson Day School, Phoenix Academy, and Summit Charter Academy.

The Board of Directors also approved the following recommendations.

From the Sports Committee:

To extend the regular season for both men’s and women’s lacrosse to match the length of other spring sports with 24-game limitations. Effective 2024-25.
 
To approve the 2024-25 NCHSAA Sports Calendar. Effective 2024-25.
 
To change the formula for the distribution of berths to the individual regional tennis tournaments. Effective 2024-25. 
 
To authorize alternate match formats for dual-team tennis matches during the regular season. Upon mutual agreement, coaches may conduct a match using 8 or 10-game pro-sets in singles, and/or use no-ad scoring in singles and doubles. Effective immediately.
 
To eliminate the policy approved by the Board of Directors in Spring 2023 for bat testing. Effective immediately. 

From the Review and Officiating Committee: 

A change in the wording and adjustment to the basketball assigning fees so that varsity games are listed as one assignment (boys/girls), and the JV Games (boys/girls) are listed as one assignment. Effective immediately.
 
To amend the current NCHSAA Handbook policy for the two-hour time limit in JV baseball games. This only applies when JV contests are involved in a JV/Varsity doubleheader. Effective immediately.

From the Policy Committee:

To apply a 1-for-1 suspension, capped at four contests, for coaches not in compliance with education requirements. Effective 2024-25.
 
For Health and Safety, moving infractions 3.3.5 (b)(6), 3.3.5 (b)(7), 3.3.5 (c)(1) and 3.3.5 (c)(1) to Level 4 infractions. Effective Immediately.

From the Finance and Personnel Committee:

To approve the 2022-23 audit as presented to the full Board of Directors by Blackman & Sloop, CPAs. Effective Immediately.
 
To review and approve the 2023-24 Annual Operating Budget; review revenues and expenditures made to date. Retroactive to July 1, 2023.
 
To approve that undesignated and/or unexpected corporate support funds in the current fiscal year be used in part to offset Section 3 Meeting expenses. The NCHSAA is slated to host the annual Section 3 Meeting in September 2024 (each of the eight regional states rotate hosting duties). Effective immediately.
