CHAPEL HILL – Due to wintry weather in the Winston-Salem area and what is expected to be dangerous conditions for spectators earlier in the day, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association has made the difficult decision to delay the start of the 2017 4AA and 4A Football State Championship games scheduled at Wake Forest University’s BB&T Field.
The start of the 4AA game between Wake Forest and Mallard Creek has been delayed three hours and is now scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. Subsequently, the 4A game between Scotland County and Harding University has also been delayed three hours and is now scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
Sinclair Broadcasting is still planning to broadcast the games, however, the TV schedule and listings by market released earlier this week will be amended. An updated TV schedule for each market will be released when it becomes available later this evening. ALL GAMES WILL STREAM LIVE ON THE NFHS NETWORK. Subscriptions to the NFHS Network are $9.95 per month and subscribers will have access to content from all over the United States including North Carolina.
Commissioner Que Tucker, “Based on the reports we received from the staff at Wake Forest and our conversations in the office, we feel that it is in the best interest of all participants, especially the spectators, to delay the games at Wake Forest until the temperature rises, and the staff at the stadium has a chance to prepare the stadium to host everyone in a safe manner.”
