SALISBURY—The Salisbury-Rowan Sports Hall of Fame recently inducted its newest group of honorees during festivities at the Civic Center, according to a story in the Salisbury Post.

       A total of seven individuals were inducted in the Hall’s 15th annual class.

       The honorees included a wide variety of athletes and coaches from the county, including:

       –veteran coach Bob Hundley, who coached the 1986 North Rowan men’s basketball team to a North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championship and also coached baseball at the school

       –Ralph Kitley, who was a star on that North Rowan team that went 29-2 and went on to play at Wake Forest; he is now principal at Northwest Guilford High School

       –Andre Godfrey, who played for Coach Hundley in high school, averaging just 8.7 points per game, but went on to a great career at Catawba College from 1988-92, finishing with 1,673 career points and ranks third in school history in scoring average

       –Kendall Alley, who was a standout three-sport athlete at North Rowan who played in the 1978 Shrine Bowl and went on to play at Clemson. He is now a regional president in the banking industry with Wells Fargo

       –Dean Sheetz, an outstanding athlete at China Grove High in the early 1950’s who is in the Piedmont (Ga) College Hall of Fame and became an outstanding amateur golfer

       –Ralph Ellis, a multi-sport athlete at West Rowan in the early 1970s before graduating from Livingstone who has been an integral part of West Rowan athletics as a football, basketball, tennis and track coach. He is in his 34th

       –the late Oetten Fisher, a 1943 graduate of Salisbury’s J.C. Price High School who was one of the first African-American athletes to play professional football in Canada

       There are now 94 inductees in the Salisbury-Rowan Sports Hall of Fame.
