CHAPEL HILL— Heaven Fitch from Uwharrie Charter Academy and Javon Armstrong from Pamlico County High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Heaven, a junior on the Uwharrie Charter wrestling team, became the first female to win an NCHSAA Wrestling Individual State Championship on Saturday, capturing the 1A 106 lb title. Heaven wrapped up the season with a 54-4 record while capturing the 1A Most Outstanding Wrestler Award.
Armstrong, a senior on the Pamlico County wrestling team, captured his second state championship in the 285 lb weight class on Saturday. His state championship victory capped off an undefeated season at 32-0 and was also his 100th career win.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m. through the online form that can be found here.
