CHAPEL HILL— Abby Mayer from Person High School and Coby Ingle from Rockingham County High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Mayer, a senior on the Person soccer team, recorded 6 goals and 2 assists in the Rockets’ season-opening 8-2 victory over Vance County. The senior striker tallied 6 more goals in a 6-0 win over Roxboro Community, bringing her total to 12 goals on the week.
Ingle, a senior on the Rockingham County baseball team, threw a no-hitter in the Cougars’ 5-0 victory over Person last week. In 7 innings of work, the senior struck out 13 while the Cougars only allowed three baserunners.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
