CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) hosted an introductory reception for the members of the 2021 & 2022 Classes of the NCHSAA Hall of Fame at the Association office in Chapel Hill. The reception allowed the members of each class to meet one another and reminisce about their days as coaches and athletic administrators.
Commissioner Que Tucker said, “This day is always one of our favorites in the office because we get the opportunity to honor individuals from across the state who have made incredible contributions to high school athletics while leaving a lasting impact on students and their communities.”
Due to COVID-19 delays and scheduling, things were a little different for the Association’s Hall of Fame, selecting two classes to honor with a single induction banquet on August 20, 2022. This year’s classes highlight four individuals from the Class of 2021 and another four from the Class of 2022.

The Class of 2021 features four coaches: Susan “Susie” DeWeese from Asheville, Charlie Spivey from Sanford, Bob Vroom from Swansboro, and Jonathan McKee from Greensboro who will be inducted posthumously. The Class of 2022 will honor four coaches as well: Franklin “Danny” Anderson from Granite Falls, Harold Robinson from Washington, Harold “Hal” Stewart from Raleigh, and Ruby Sutton from Kinston.
At the Introduction Reception, each inductee was presented with a Hall of Fame Plaque outlining their contributions and achievements in high school athletics, sized for their Hall of Fame Ring and interviewed for the video that will introduce them at the Hall of Fame Banquet in August.
The Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at the Embassy Suites in Cary, NC and is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. on August 20, 2022. Each inductee will have local ticket coordinators that can help individuals wishing to attend get tickets for the banquet. Individuals interested in attending from the General Public can contact the NCHSAA Office for tickets once they go on sale on June 15th.
