Norris Jones had an outstanding career as a coach in the mountains of North Carolina as well as working as a booking agent for officials. A 1951 graduate of Western Carolina, Jones coached from 1951 through ‘62 at Swain County and then for the next 20 years at T.C. Roberson, helping start the new Roberson school’s athletic program. His record as a head football coach was a stellar 195-111-2 in 30 seasons, while in ten years as a head basketball coach he compiled a mark of 170-70. He also served as an athletic director at those schools for some 30 years. His teams won conference championships 14 times in three different sports. A former member of the Board of Directors of the NCHSAA, he also was the booking agents for the Western North Carolina Officials Association for six years.
