North Buncombe Volleyball Player Reaches Milestone

WEAVERVILLE—A North Buncombe High School volleyball standout reached a major career milestone on Monday night.

Morgan Ballard, the libero for North Buncombe, recorded the 1,500th dig of her career as her team got past Smoky Mountain 3-1 in action at North Buncombe.  The achievement was reported in the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Ballard had 23 digs in the match that the Black Hawks won by set scores of 25-16, 25-19, 17-25 and 27-25.  She also had three service aces, three kills and a pair of assists on the night.

Ballard was named the Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year last season in volleyball and has committed to continue her athletic career at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.

Digs is not a category currently listed in the NCHSAA Record Book or the National High School Sports Record book sponsored by the National Federation, but Ballard’s statistics are still remarkable.  We appreciate North Buncombe head coach Rebecca Pickens providing the appropriate information and documentation.
