North Buncombe Women’s Golfer Shoots 31 For Nine Holes

Freshman Callista Rice of North Buncombe High School recently recorded a memorable round in women’s golf action on the nine-hole Forest City Country Club course.

Rice fired a five-under par 31 on the 2,208-yard layout in the All-Western North Carolina Golf Tournament, which featured 12 teams from the area. She had an eagle and three birdies.

West Henderson was the overall team winner of the event with North Buncombe in second.

The recorded NCHSAA record for nine holes in women’s golf is a 29, which was fired by Ashley Thompson of Pisgah in a Western North Carolina Athletic Conference match on October 3, 2012, at Lake Junaluska Golf Club. Her round occurred on the back nine, which had a par 34.
