Orange, Cedar Ridge Will Battle In Cancer Awareness Games

HILLSBOROUGH—Two Orange County rivals will battle today (Wednesday) in both baseball and softball, but they will all be joining together for a great cause.

Cedar Ridge will travel to Orange, with games starting at 4:30, with the cause all for cancer awareness. Orange baseball coach Dean Dease reports that players on all teams will be wearing pink, and after the game, most of the baseball players on both teams will be having their heads shaved to raise money to fight childhood cancer.

The event is known as “Basebald” and money raised goes to benefit the Vs. Cancer Foundation, which has been working in high schools and colleges across the area. The foundation is “dedicated to saving kids’ lives by empowering athletes and communities to fund lifesaving childhood cancer efforts.”

The schools have joined together to create a website to track their progress, with the goal of raising $9,000. As of Tuesday at lunch time the total had moved past the $5,000 mark.

Our congratulations to these two schools, who are fierce competitors on the field or court but also are working together for a great cause.
