Performance of the Week | Powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and Jersey Mike’s Subs

CHAPEL HILL— Paul Neil of Ronald Reagan High School and Nyona Shields of Union Pines High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Neil, a senior swimmer for Reagan, capped off his career at the recent conference meet with wins in the 200 IM and 100 Breast Stroke, setting Central Piedmont 4A Conference records in both events. Additionally, he swam on two conference, record-setting relay teams – the 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle. His performances in these four events earned him the Central Piedmont Conference Swimmer of the Year honor.

Shields, a junior point guard for the Union Pines Lady Vikings, scored a total of 57 points last week in three games against conference foes Terry Sanford, Westover, and Douglas Byrd. In the games versus Westover and Byrd, she shot an astounding 93% from the free throw line and she is averaging 15.3 points, 3.2 steals and 4.1 assists per game for the season.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Tuesday night Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
