CHAPEL HILL— Jackson Tyler of New Hanover High School and Tess Meurling of Apex High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Tyler, a junior on the Wildcats’ men’s golf team, medaled twice last week. He scored a 77 at St. James Country Club in Southport during the Mideastern 3A/4A conference match and later in the week, he scored a 71 at Bear Trail Country Club versus New Bern. Tyler has earned medalist honors in four matches this season with his lowest score a 68 at Magnolia Greens Country Club earlier in the season.

Meurling, a sophomore midfielder for Apex, has been instrumental in leading her lacrosse team to a 9 -1 conference record including three wins last week in which she compiled some impressive stats: 13 goals, 8 assists, 14 ground balls and a .762 draw percentage, winning 48 of 63 draws. Meurling is also noted for her speed and field awareness as well as strong defensive play which effectively shuts down her opponents and creates turnovers.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
