CHAPEL HILL— Brittany Morton of Hibriten High School and Holland Baynard of Hoggard High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Morton had a stellar performance in last week’s softball play. The senior, who pitches and plays shortstop for the Panthers, led her team with a 4 for 4 plate appearance against St. Stephens High School while scoring 5 runs with 2 runs batted in and 2 stolen bases. In addition, she pitched 5 innings, striking out 4. Later in the week against Shelby, Morton was 3 of 4 at bat hitting a single, double and a homerun as well as 3 stolen bases and 4 innings pitched with 8 strikeouts.   Finally, she culminated her performance going 2 of 3 at the plate including 2 homeruns and 4 runs batted in while striking out 3 batters.

Baynard, a freshman tennis standout at Hoggard, went 3-0 in singles and picked up a doubles victory last week, helping the Vikings win all three matches. Baynard picked up a three-set victory at No. 3 singles on Monday before moving up to No. 1 for a pair of wins against Ashley High School on Wednesday (6-1, 6-1) and West Brunswick (6-0, 6-0) on Thursday.
