Performance of the Week | Powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and Jersey Mike’s Subs

CHAPEL HILL— Julia Poole of Middle Creek High School and Connor Blandford of Corinth Holders High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Poole broke the NCHSAA state record in the 200 Individual Medley and finished first in the 100 Breaststroke to claim State Champion titles in both events. She also aided Middle Creek’s 400 Freestyle Relay team to a third place finish and swam on the 200 Medley Relay. Poole, a junior, rounded out her NCHSAA Women’s 4A High School State Swimming Championship performance as the Most Outstanding Female Swimmer.

 Blandford, a senior, won two individual events during the NCHSAA Men’s 3A High School State Swimming Championships and clinched the title of Most Outstanding Male Swimmer. He finished first in the 200 Individual Medley, setting a new 3A state record, and likewise finished first in the 100 Breaststroke event. Blandford swam on the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay that finished second and third, respectively. He will swim at the University of Kentucky next year.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Tuesday night Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
