CHAPEL HILL— Ian Boyd of Apex High School and Abby Cook of Alexander Central High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Boyd finished his career at Apex with 2,128 points, which falls at #23 on the state all-time scoring list. He had 14 points in a win versus Seventy-First last Thursday, scored 15 points and had 9 rebounds in a one point loss on the road at Millbrook, ending his two-sport (football/basketball) career at Apex. Boyd, a senior, has committed to play at George Mason University.
Cook, a junior, had two huge games to lead Alexander Central to first and second round wins in the NCHSAA 4A women’s playoffs. In an 81-74, 4 overtime win over Charlotte Vance on February 23, Cook scored 39 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for her nineteenth double-double of the season. Two days later, she chalked up her twentieth double-double with a 14 point, 11 rebound effort in Alexander’s second round win over Greensboro Page.
TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Tuesday night Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
