Each week an athlete in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association is selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media, and school administrators for their outstanding performance.
The OrthroCarolina Performer of the Week for week twenty-four of NCHSAA competition goes to Laynie Smith of Chapel Hill High School and Colby Jenny of Franklin Academy.
Laynie Smith has been lights out from all over the court this postseason for Chapel Hill High School. She has just come off incredible performances in the playoffs against #2 seeded Hoggard High School and Athens Drive High School. Beating Hoggard was a huge upset in which she posted 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. In the next round against Athens, she totaled 22 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists. All around dominating performances for the star junior!
Colby Jenny had his best game of the year during the first ever home playoff game in Franklin Academy school’s history. The team found themselves down 16 points at the start of the 2nd quarter when he decided to take over by scoring 18 points while shooting 83% from the field. He had his biggest steal of the game with 30 seconds to go down 49-50 where he went the length of the court to score and take the lead with just 20 seconds to go. He finished the game with 18pts on 83% shooting, 50% 3FG, 83% FT, 3 rebounds and 5 steals!
