Each week an athlete in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association is selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media, and school administrators for their outstanding performance.
The OrthoCarolina Performer of the Week for week twenty-six of NCHSAA competition goes to Abby Bowman of West Caldwell High School and James Cardillo of Middle Creek High School.
With her impressive play on the mound, Sophomore Abby Bowman led her softball team to three shutout wins. Throughout the week, Abby pitched a total of 11 innings, striking out an impressive 27 opposing batters while allowing only six hits and issuing just one walk. But Abby’s skills weren’t limited to pitching alone – she also made her mark at the plate. With six hits out of ten at-bats, Abby proved to be a powerful offensive player, driving in five runs and crossing the plate four times herself. Overall, her outstanding performance both as a pitcher and a batter helped the West Caldwell Softball Team to a dominant week. Their team is 6-0 so far this season.
James Cardillo, a Senior Captain of Middle Creek’s Men’s Lacrosse team, was instrumental in leading his team to an impressive 3-0 record this week with his outstanding performance on the field. In their match against Green Level, he scored five goals, provided one assist, and secured two ground balls. Against Green Hope James delivered a noteworthy performance with three goals, two assists, and two ground balls. Finally, in the game against St. Christopher’s (VA), he displayed exceptional skills by scoring five goals, assisting one, and snatching an impressive five ground balls. With such a remarkable start to the season, there is no doubt that we will be seeing more fantastic play from James and the rest of the Mustangs this season!
