CHAPEL HILL— Aniylah Bryant of Havelock High School and Brandon Ellington of Community School of Davidson have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.
Each week, two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Bryant, a junior for Havelock’s Women’s Basketball team, recorded a double-double for the Rams with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the 52-48 win over Holly Springs on 1/15. She also had 2 blocks and 2 steals in the game. In action the next day, Bryant contributed 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals in a loss to Jacksonville. Finally, in play 1/19 versus West Carteret, Bryant contributed to the 67 – 41 win over West Carteret with 20 points. These games come on the heels of the previous week’s play during which she surpassed the 1,000 point milestone on 1/13/18.
Ellington, a junior guard on the Spartans Men’s Basketball team, led Community School of Davidson to an 83-82 triple-overtime win over Mountain Island Charter. He hit the game-tying 3-pointer to go into the first overtime and had 34 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals for the game.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year on April 28th. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
