Richlands Names Smith New Soccer Coach

RICHLANDS—Stan Smith is the new women’s soccer coach at Richlands High School, according to a report in the Jacksonville Daily News.

Smith, 24 years of age, will take over for veteran coach P.J. McManus, who retired at the end of the women’s soccer season in the spring.

Smith is a 2008 graduate of Richlands who played football and soccer in high school and then played collegiate soccer at Mount Olive.  He has been teaching and coaching at Richlands for two years, teaching math and serving as an assistant coach in both men’s and women’s soccer.

Richlands posted an 8-13-1 mark last spring and advanced to the NCHSAA state 3-A soccer playoffs.
