Roberson Football Coach Headed To Mars Hill As Assistant

SKYLAND — T.C. Roberson High School head football coach Jim Beatty has resigned, according to a report in the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Beatty is headed to the collegiate ranks as he has taken a job at Mars Hill University as offensive line coach. Beatty is a graduate of Mars Hill.

Beatty had served as the coach at T.C. Roberson since 2006 and compiled a 54-42 overall record during that time. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for the Rams.

The Rams went 4-8 in Beatty’s final season and lost in the first round of the NCHSAA 4-A playoffs to North Davidson.

Beatty’s predecessor, Mike Houston, also left for a college job when he took an assistant’s position at Brevard College nine years ago. He later went to Lenoir-Rhyne University and as head coach led the Bears to the NCAA Division II national championship game in 2013. He left LRU to become the head coach at The Citadel.
