STUDENTS FROM CHERRYVILLE & COX MILL EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Bayleigh Henley of Cherryville High School and Colin Noone of Cox Mill High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Colin Noone powered his Cox Mill team to a pair of wins on the soccer field on the week. He scored four goals and assisted on the team’s fifth goal in a 5-0 win over Concord. Then he followed that performance up with five goals and an assist in an 8-2 win over East Rowan. He is a three year starter for Cox Mill and receiving interest from several Division I and Division II schools according to his coach, Brad Hinson.

Senior setter Bayleigh Henley helped the Lady Ironmen Volleyball team to a 3-0 week, pushing them to a 10-2 mark overall on the season. The three-year all-conference performer was 59 out of 60 in serves with 12 aces on the week. She added 96 assists, 25 digs and 11 dink points. She was part of the team that helped Coach Leigh Kiser earn her 100th coaching victory at Cherryville.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
