Students From Crest, Roxboro Community School Earn NCHSAA Performance of the Week Awards

CHAPEL HILL— Tre’ Harbison of Crest High School near Shelby and Darius McGhee of Roxboro Community School have been named winners of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Harbison had a huge game in the NCHSAA state 3-AA football championship game, as the running back exploded for seven rushing touchdowns as the Chargers rolled to a 55-21 victory over Southern Durham at Kenan Stadium.

The senior running back, who plans to continue his career at the University of Virginia, carried the ball 24 times for 295 rushing yards, and his seven touchdowns is the second most in the modern era of the NCHSAA championships. His TD runs came on scampers of 28, two, 72, 28, four, one and 26 yards, and he was a unanimous choice for the Most Valuable Player award in the championship game, the second year in a row he earned the MVP honor.

McGhee etched his name in the NCHSAA Record Book in men’s basketball by leading his team to a couple of easy victories last week.  He poured in 42 points in the Bulldogs’ 78-41 victory over Franklin Academy and then tossed in 55 points in a 90-54 triumph over Woods Charter.

McGhee, who is currently averaging better than 38 points per game, tied a couple of state records for three-pointers in the Woods Charter victory.  He knocked in nine threes in the first half and had a total of 14 for the game.

TWC Sports Channel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Tuesday night SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
