STUDENTS FROM HOLMES & LAKE NORMAN CHARTER EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Olivia Archer of Lake Norman Charter High School and Keimon Bailey from John A. Holmes High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Archer, a junior at Lake Norman Charter, won the 2A individual singles championship two weeks ago without dropping a single game in the four tournament matches. She followed that performance up with an equally impressive weekend in the 2A Dual Team Tennis State Championships. Archer blasted past her singles opponent without losing a game and then combined with Zoe Panizza to shut out their opponents 10-0 in the doubles match, helping Lake Norman Charter secure their third straight dual-team championship.

Bailey, a junior at Holmes, rushed for 286 yards on just 15 carries including two touchdowns to help the Aces defeat Currituck 42-13. He scored from 53 and 61 yards out. The effort put him past the 2,000-yard mark on the year and took down a school record that stood for 20 years.Bailey is reportedly a recruiting target of several Division II schools and has now amassed 2,065 yards on the season as his team heads into the first round of the playoffs against Beddingfield.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
