STUDENTS FROM MARVIN RIDGE & DURHAM JORDAN EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Talia Barnes from C.E. Jordan High School and Emeka Emezie from Marvin Ridge High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Barnes, a senior on the Falcons basketball team, led her team to a pair of wins on the week. In a 62-54 win over East Wake, Barnes snagged 25 rebounds, 14 offensive and 11 defensive in addition to 11 points and 4 blocks. She added 16 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocks in another Falcon win that week against Enloe. As a junior last season, she was a unanimous PAC-6 All-Conference selection.

Emezie, a senior on the Mavericks football team, turned in one of the best performances in school history in round 3 of the state playoffs against Hickory Ridge. He caught 11 passes for 187 yards and four touchdowns, including hauling in a 38-yard pass on 4th and goal while trailing in the third overtime period. Emezie is committed to NC State’s recruiting class for next season.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
