STUDENTS FROM PINECREST & PANTHER CREEK EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Mara Hirtle from Pinecrest High School and Joey Bream from Panther Creek High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Hirtle, a junior on the Patriots women’s golf team, fired a 68 in the 4A Central Regional Tournament to help her team claim the regional title by 26 shots. The team combined for a 2 under par 214 to win the title, the lowest score ever recorded for a Pinecrest women’s team in the regionals. Hirtle was the medalist in the tournament after leading her team in conference play with a 9-hole scoring average of 35.4 on her way to being named Sandhills Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Bream, a senior on the Catamounts men’s cross country team, captured the Tri-6 Conference Championship while leading his team to the team title in the event as well. Bream outpaced the field with a time of 15:32.30, a new personal record, and was named Tri-6 Conference Runner of the Year. He also claimed victories in the Friday Night Lights and Wendy’s Invitationals this season.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in early May. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
