CHAPEL HILL— Elana Ingram of Roxboro Community School and Rashad Butler of Carver High School in Winston-Salem have been named winners of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.
Each week one male and one female athlete in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Ingram had a big game for her women’s basketball team in its season opener, a 49-34 victory over Durham School of the Arts. Those two schools, which don’t field football teams, are among those who may play basketball games at an earlier date according to NCHSAA rules.
Ingram, a sophomore guard, poured in 30 points out of her team’s 49 and also added six steals and four assists in leading Roxboro Community to victory.
Butler is a 5-10, 170-pound senior running back that led Carver to a come-from-behind victory over North Rowan in the opening round of the NCHSAA football playoffs.
Butler carried the ball 28 times for a whopping 412 yards and three long touchdowns runs covering 68, 86 and 60 yards. North Rowan led 14-0 before Butler exploded to help his team advance in postseason play.
TWC Sports Channel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Tuesday night SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
