CHAPEL HILL— Kylia Wright from Southeast Raleigh High School and Caden O’brien from Maiden High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Spectrum SportsChannel.
Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.
Wright, a senior on the Bulldogs women’s track team, won the 100 Meter and 200 Meter Dashes at the Bojangles Invitational Track Meet in Columbia, South Carolina this past weekend. She posted a time of 11.56 seconds in the 100, which is the top time in the state this year and ninth all-time in the state. She also completed a 24.01 second time in the 200, the top time in the state this year and 11th all time in NC.
O’brien, a senior on the Maiden baseball team struck out 18 batters for the second week in a rown, this time fanning the batters of rival Newton-Conover in a 7-1 victory. O’brien is 5-0 on the year in six games this season, boasting a 0.85 ERA and 63 strikeouts on the season. The University of North Carolina commit also leads the team in RBI’s with 14.
Spectrum SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Sports Night show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
