GARNER—Veteran assistant coach Thurman Leach has been named as the head football coach at Garner High School, according to various media reports including HighSchoolOT.com.
Leach has been at Garner since 1990, most recently as defensive coordinator, and replaces Nelson Smith, who stepped down from the coaching post but is still serving as athletic director. Garner was 14-1 last season and lost in the Eastern Regional championship game to Fayetteville Britt.
Leach is a graduate of Fuquay-Varina High School and Gardner-Webb University.
