RALEIGH— The top two seeds in singles had little trouble winning their two matches on Friday in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association women’s state 4-A tennis championships at Millbrook Exchange Park.
Top-seeded Beata Debinski of Winston-Salem Mount Tabor and second-seeded Anna Lee Evans of Watauga each lost only three games in four sets to advance to the Saturday morning semifinals, and each will face Redfern sisters in the Saturday morning semifinals. Debinski will face Shondra Redfern of Charlotte Harding University, who upended third-seeded Heather Prior of Raleigh Wakefield in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon, while Evans will face Shodra’s sister Kimber in the other singles semifinal.
In doubles, the top four seeded teams all won their matches in straight sets to advance to semifinal action Saturday morning. The top-seeded pair of Kayla Duncan and Morgan Rogers of Winston-Salem R.J. Reynolds was the state runner-up in doubles a year ago.
The finals are set for Saturday afternoon.
