TRINITY – Trinity High School has hired Troy Whitman as its new head football didn’t have to look far to find its next head football coach, according to the High Point Enterprise..
Whitman, 40, replaces Alex Mebane at the Bulldog helm. Mebane stepped down in November after five seasons. Trinity athletic director Doug Tuggle announced Whitman’s hiring.
Whitman, the son of veteran coach Gary Whitman, started his career as an assistant coach under Dickie Cline at North Davidson in the early 1990s.
He then joined the staff of his father as an assistant coach at High Point Central for nine seasons, then went with him to Lexington for four years. Whitman also served three years as an assistant coach at Glenn and for the last two years taught at Thomasville but did not coach.
The Whitmans will be reunited in Trinity, as plans call for Gary to join his son’s coaching staff.
