CHAPEL HILL— Maddie Gillie from R-S Central High School and Max Bademian from Franklin Academy have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Gillie, a junior on the R-S Central Basketball Team, led the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 record to start their season this week. Gillie scored 22 points and brought down 6 rebounds in R-S Central’s 60-41 season-opening win against Madison. She followed this up with a second straight 22-point performance in a 53-41 win over McDowell.
Bademian, a junior on the Franklin Academy Soccer Team, claimed MVP honors at the 1A Men’s Soccer State Championship on Saturday. Bademian scored the equalizing goal late in the first half, adding another one just minutes into the second half. His 2-goal performance lead Franklin Academy to a 3-2 victory over Christ the King.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
