CHAPEL HILL— Akala Garrett from Harding University High School and Cameron Jones from North Pitt High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Garrett, a freshman on Harding’s Indoor Track and Field Team, set school records in the 500 Meter Dash and 55 Meter Hurdles at the HOT Turkey Indoor Meet at JDL Fast Track. Her respective times of 1:17.61 and 8.03 rank first in North Carolina, and her 500 Meter Dash time is currently first in the nation.
Jones, a senior on the North Pitt Wrestling Team, notched his 100th career win after going 4-0 this week at the James Johnson Duals. He was unanimously voted as the team captain to start the season.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 pm through the online form that can be found here.
