CHAPEL HILL— Bella Alfaro from the North Carolina School of Science and Math and Jieem Bullock from North Brunswick High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Alfaro, a junior on the NCSSM basketball team, scored 44 points on Tuesday as the Unicorns defeated the Durham School of the Arts. Alfaro followed this up by pouring in 36 points and 7 assists in a win over Carborro, pushing the Unicorns’ record to 20-5 on the season.
Bullock, a senior on the North Brunswick indoor track and field team, was awarded the Men's Indoor Track & Field 3A State Championship Most Outstanding Performer. Bullock accounted for 26 points by placing first in the High Jump and Long Jump and medaling third in the 55M Hurdles.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m. through the online form that can be found here.
