WEEK 24 | 2023-24 ORTHOCAROLINA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

Each week two athletes in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association are selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media and school administrators for their outstanding performance.  

The OrthoCarolina Performers of the Week for week 24 of NCHSAA competition are Cameron Stinson from Mallard Creek and Leah Edwards from East Rowan.

Stinson, a senior men’s wrestler for the Mavericks, won his fourth State Championship this past weekend at the Greensboro Coliseum. Cameron was selected as the tournament’s 4A Most Outstanding Wrestler and joined JohnMark Bentley and Mike Kendall as the third NCHSAA wrestler to finish his career undefeated. Finishing his high school journey with an impeccable record of 205-0, Stinson will go down as one of the best North Carolina High School Wrestlers of all time, also marking a historic milestone as the first Black wrestler to finish undefeated.

Edwards, a junior women’s wrestler from East Rowan was named Most Outstanding Wrestler in the inaugural NCHSAA Women’s State Tournament. Edwards won the 114-pound weight class in a dominant fashion with two pins, a technical fall, and a major decision along the way. Edwards finished the season 28-1 overall.
