Each week two athletes in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association are selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media and school administrators for their outstanding performance.
The OrthoCarolina Performers of the Week for week 31 of NCHSAA competition are JaMyah Pickett from East Duplin and Will Mitchell from Green Hope.
Pickett, a junior track athlete, set an East Duplin High School record in the triple jump last week with a distance of 36 feet, 2 inches. In the same meet she also threw the shot put 38 feet 11 inches, an event in which she leads the 2A East regional rankings. Additionally, JaMyah is tied for first in the high jump and seconnd in the triple jump and discus in regional rankings.
Mitchell, a senior golfer for the Falcons, led Green Hope to victory in the Southwest Wake Conference match at Falls Village Golf Club las week. Will shot a 32 after pouring in five birdies in the nine-holes match. Will’s performance was enough to earn himself first place overall and boost his team to an important conference win.
