West Brunswick Looking for New Football Coach

SHALLOTTE—West Brunswick High School is looking for a new head football coach.

Veteran coach Bob Hanna will not be returning to the school in that role after one year at the helm.

Hanna had several coaching stints in North Carolina and his career covers 44 years, but for 20 years served at Irmo High School in South Carolina as head football coach and athletic director, where his teams went 163-93 and were South Carolina state runners-up in their classification three times. He retired from that role and was hired in July of 2014 as head coach at West Brunswick.

In his one season at West, where he was a non-faculty coach, Hanna’s team posted a 5-7 mark and lost in the first round of the NCHSAA playoffs.

“We wish Coach Hanna all the best and appreciate his service to WBHS,” principal Brock Ahrens said a release that was quoted in the Wilmington Star-News. “We are looking for the right fit for our program and are excited to begin the search for our next head football coach.”
