WINSTON-SALEM —West Forsyth has hired two coaches and lost one, and R.J. Reynolds has filled a vacancy on its staff, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
West Forsyth has hired Karen Duncan and Lindsay Deibler as varsity tennis coaches, athletic director T.R. Richards of West said. Reynolds has named Franny Apel to coach girls soccer, according to athletic director Jim Spivey of Reynolds.
Duncan will coach the girls team at West while Deibler will coach the boys. The two replace Paul Swindler, who coached both tennis teams for six years but resigned from teaching and coaching at the end of the school year.
Richards also said that Brendan Leezer, West’s lacrosse coach the past three seasons, has resigned to move to Atlanta with his wife.
Duncan is a longtime local tennis instructor whose daughter now plays for Wake Forest. Richards said that Duncan and Deibler will be non-faculty coaches not on the West faculty.
Apel, a math teacher, will replace the recently resigned Tim Sparks as the girls soccer coach at Reynolds. She was the Gatorade player of the year in Idaho as a high-school senior in 1998-99 and was a four-year starter at William & Mary.
Apel, who also has taught in Chicago and Elkin, was an assistant to Sparks the past two seasons.
