White Oak Cruises Past T.c. Roberson In NCHSAA State 3-A Women’s Soccer

JACKSONVILLE WHITE OAK BLASTS ASHEVILLE ROBERSON BY 4-0 TO CAPTURE NCHSAA WOMEN’S SOCCER 3-A CHAMPIONSHIP

RALEIGH— Angela Cole had two goals and Stephanie Rose added a goal and an assist as Jacksonville White Oak rolled to a convincing 4-0 victory over previously unbeaten Asheville T.C. Roberson on Saturday afternoon in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s women’s 3-A soccer championship at Paul Derr Stadium at N.C. State.

White Oak won its third consecutive state championship and was in the finals for the fourth consecutive year. The Lady Vikings finished the season with a 21-1-1 mark and won their last 10 in a row. T.C. Roberson was in the finals for the sixth time, but is still seeking its first state championship in women’s soccer.

Cole, a sophomore midfielder, opened the scoring in the 39th minute, tallying off a ball served in the box by Rose, who was chosen the championship Most Valuable Player. Then the Lady Vikings put it away with two goals in a three-minute stretch early in the second half.

Freshman Emma Barber knocked in a cross from Amanda Fenton in the 49th minute to put White Oak ahead 2-0, and then three minutes later Rose ripped a rocket to the back of the net, scoring her 43rd goal of the season, off a pass from Kristal Tucker to run the count to 3-0.

Cole got the final goal with less than five minutes to play. White Oak had 13 shots on goal for the game to just five for Roberson.

The loss for T.C. Roberson was its first of the year after 28 consecutive victories and the Lady Rams entered the game ranked number one in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

The Raleigh Sports Consortium serves as the primary host city partner for the women’s soccer championship, along with the Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau. Wendy’s and the Carolinas Ford Dealers are the presenting sponsors for the NCHSAA sports program.
